What is Acupuncture?

ACUPUNCTURE originated in China and has been practised there for thousands of years. Although there are records of acupuncture being used hundreds of years ago in Europe. It was during the second half of the twentieth century it began to spread rapidly in Western Europe. Over two millions treatments are currently given each year in Britain alone.

There are several different ways of using acupuncture in treating people, finding the right acupuncture treatment for you is very important.

Traditional Five Element Acupuncture is a health care system based on ancient principles which go back over two thousand years. The focus of Five Element acupuncture treatment is on the individual, not their illness and all symptoms are seen in relationship to each other. Each patient is unique; two people with the same western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatment. This style of acupuncture can be very effective in helping such problems as anxiety, depression, stress, migraine, high blood pressure, digestive problems such as IBS and diverticulitis.

Western ‘Medical’ Acupuncture is western adaptions of traditional acupuncture as is applied following a western medical diagnosis. For this reason Western Medical acupuncture is especially effective in pain relief for a wide range of painful conditions such as headaches, neck and back pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sports injury and arthritic conditions.

Fertility Acupuncture Alan is one of Scotland’s most experienced Five Element Acupuncturists in the field of fertility treatment and over the past 17 years has successfully helped hundreds of couples with their fertility problems. Acupuncture is often cited as an effective treatment in helping endometriosis, PSOC and ovulatory dysfunction, improving sperm count, combating stress which, in turn, may increase the chance of conceiving.
